Newbie Question: Even cannot load simple PHP...

Postby saifeilei » Mon Mar 03, 2003 8:58 pm

Hi All,

I'm totally new to PHP and would like to start from scratch. I have installed the EasyPHP bundle (incl. Apache, MySQL & PHP).

As instructed by EasyPHP, I can load the http://localhost/index.php in my browser. That makes me think that the apache web server is up and running. However, when I load a php file with the following codes...

<html>
<head>
<title>My First page in PHP</title>
</head>
<body>
Current date : <? print (Date("l F d, Y")); ?>
</body>
</html>

I cannot get the date displayed... My questions are:

(1) Do I have to do anything to make the php work, in addition to startup the web server.
(2) EasyPHP is easy to install, but, there's no admin function to further setup the configuration such as location of localhost, MySQL database etc. (correct me if I was wrong). Is there any other bunder out there which suit newbies like me?

Any idea is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi WiZARD,

Not quite sure about your suggestion. I have installed EasyPHP in \Program Files\EasyPHP and I found there's a subfolder PHP there. However, there's no install.txt inside, nor there's any in \Program Files\EasyPHP and its subfolders.

Do I have to setup anything to make PHP works?

Thx.

EasyPHP seems convenient to me as a newbie. However, do you guys used to install separate modules (PHP, Apache, MySQL...) and configure it yourself, ... , and is this better?

I have downloaded the Apache2 and installed it. Seems there's nothing related to PHP, even it seems there should be a few lines added to the httpd.conf. Do I have to download something else to make it work?

Thanks.

If you will carefully read install.txt in PHP you see part about installation under apache2.
I'm use:
http://www.php.net PHP 4.3.1
http://www.apache.org Apache 1.3.27
http://www.mysql.com MySQL 3.x (last release)
