PHP Image Overlay / Texture Overlay

Postby x2boarder » Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:50 am

I am trying to program a script that will take an image of furniture and allow me to overlay a fabric texture onto it. I know this is possible because sites like La-Z-Boy are doing it. Victoria Secret and some other clothing websites also do it with their clothes.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

This is an example: http://www.la-z-boy.com/Product/52-6898 ... eper-Sofa/

How do you know they aren't showing different pictures? It looks almost like something we do at my place of employment where we have solidworks designs and apply different skins to render the same item with different colors and options.

I don't know for sure if they do or not, but there are about 100 sofas with about 1000 fabrics, so that would be 100,000 images that would be manually created. It seems there would be a better way to do that with a script?

You would think so if you looked at it like that but...

Think about it like this instead.

-The have all of the fabric skins already in their design software.
-They add one sofa at a time
-They only add 5-7 fabric types for each sofa
-So they create an image for each of the options and upload them as they add the sofa to the table

I was thinking about just the same stuff these days. You describe the way it is. In a symphony orchestra, basically you spend half of your time trying to be a great sound amplifier. It is a great craft, but not such an artistic storytelling job. But anyhow, when you accept the symphony job, you have to provide the (good solid) sound thats needed in the context of the big hall, no artistic excuses possible. The jazz artists focusses on storytelling and let the amps do the sound production job. Or am I missing your point Sonic Soldier is really a nice way to describe it .

look at this beautiful URL when changing sofa's skins : (at la z boy)

Code: Select all

http://www.la-z-boy.com/Pages/ImageCheck.aspx?vntPath=http://render.la-z-boy.com/500/vnt/sofa_435.vnt?&wid=391&obj=main&src=/fabrics/28/A890726.tif&align=0&gloss=20&sharp=1&res=28&obj=wood&src=/fabrics/28/C929709.tif&align=0&gloss=20&sharp=1&res=28&obj=pillow&src=/fabrics/28/A890726.tif&align=0&gloss=20&sharp=1&res=28

we can see 3 files called by the asp script with lots of parameters :

sofa_435.vnt
A890726.tif
C929709.tif

we can see some interestings parameters like "gloss", "sharp", "align" and "res".....

so we can think there is a dynamic process to obtain the final image

i have no time to take look more deeply, but you can do it

don't you think that the above URL with all these parameters is totally useless if they have 1 image/sofa ?

(i think these guys at la z boy know what theire doing...)

bye
