Hi to all on here

Postby PeterJ » Thu Jul 14, 2011 8:10 am

Hi, I am new to the forum and very new to coding. I'm learning as much as I can and searching for everything. I often try to use scripts and then change them, to get them to behave the way I want. Then, when I've worked out how all the pieces work, I start to write my own code, to do the same functions.

I am stuck on a project that I would like to make. I would like a drop down list box where each list box would be in two sections. The first being static text, to describe the list box and the second being editable text, coming from mysql and being returned to mysql when edited.

For example.
Drop down title: Edit Text:
First box. English: English text to be edited.
Second box. Spanish: Spanish text to be edited.
Third box. Greek: Greek text to be edited.

Is this possible.

Thanks egami,

I think there could be a problem with your keyboard. I got the "Welcome" part but when you explained exactly how I can do this, your message stopped after "Yes".

Could you please retype this part? 8)

It's actually a problem with your browser. I see the explanation plain as day.

It says:
You need to utilize PHP, HTML, and JavaScript (AJAX and events) to do this.

To elaborate further I suggest checking out This Site

That would be the basic structure of the form you are talking about. You would need to add "onBlur" events that would call the AJAX function that would execute a PHP script to write to the MySQL database and then refresh the division that contains the listbox.

Also, this should be posted in PHP General OR JavaScript sections not in Free Time

Thanks Nullsig, I was on a friends pc and he uses IE, that might explain it?

I will re post this on Javascript, as you have suggested. I have made a sample, maybe you could have a look and let me know if I am heading in the right direction.

Thanks

Peter
