How can i make a query the entire database and display search results for it, rather than searching individual tables?

How can i make a query the entire database and display search results for it, rather than searching individual tables?

The only way that I know to do that is like this:

"SELECT * FROM table1, table2, table3 WHERE whatever=something ";
