Creating users with limited privileges

Postby ylkien » Tue Oct 28, 2003 12:39 pm

Hi,

i was wondering whether i can create other users in my mysql account, whereby i limit thier access? I entered the "user" table in mysql database, and saw a lot of fields, like host, password, user, select_priv, insert_priv, etc.

What does all of these priv mean? How do i just create a user with a limited access to 1 database only?

Thanks.

its sounds to me what you are looking for is the GRANTING of rights or

GRANT ALL ON <item> TO <user> IDENTIFIED BY <password>

The documentation on GRANT and REVOKE is here, and there are lots of different options you can set on a per-user level.
