Email Program for Visitors

Postby NYColt » Tue Sep 30, 2003 9:14 am

Does anyone know of an Email program that is easy to install that would allow me to offer email service to my visitors. I need a system, not just an email fetcher. I checked out squirellmail but it is a little beyond my abiltiy to configure.

Preferebly in PHP

Thanks if you can help.

HotScripts has a whole category devoted to webmail. Have a look.

Thanks for getting back to me...

I did take a look at those. Most of them look like they are for fetching email from a pop3. I did download squirellmail but it is too hard to install, it is beyond my capabilities, but I have heard of an easy to install and maintain program and can't recall the name.

Thanks again,

Well, here's the thing. E-Mail is built on POP3. POP3 isn't a standard as such, so there's nothing to stop you from doing e-mail without POP3, but why the hell would you want to? It works, and works well! You're just not going to find a reasonably good solution that's free of POP3 dependence AND easy to set up AND built entirely in PHP. You'd best prepare yourself for some serious hacking.
