What type of hosting are you comparing it to? Dedicated, VPS, Shared?

For a dedicated unmanaged server I use Codero. I'm paying $30/mo and I've had 0 problems so far. If you go with this option though I'd suggest you become familiar with linux if you are not so already. With an unmanaged server you setup every part of it yourself.

There is no better type of hosting now than Cloud Hosting, and HostGator looks better in terms of resource limitation. You can refer to Best Drupal ... There are better hosts out there then both of them.
