Forwarding domain to subpages-the new domainname visible?

Postby libralion » Mon Aug 04, 2003 11:03 am

Hello,
I have a website: www.libralion.com
I have a lot of subpages and have registered a new domain:
www.sarah-brightman.nl
Now I want the http://www.sarah-brightman.nl to redirect to: http://www.libralion.com/sarah.htm and I want the new domain(= http://www.sarah-brightman.nl) to stay visible on the screen.
My provider doesnot know how to write a php script for this.
Does anyone of you know how to do this? And can you help us?
Thanks!

This is a usability nightmare and I don't recommend doing it. But it's pretty easy to do using frames. Try this thread.

Why is this bad?

Postby libralion » Mon Aug 04, 2003 11:27 am

I can´t understand why it is bad and I don´t want to use frames. I have a very extended website: http://www.libralion.com
And one of my great Favourites is: Sarah Brightman
So I have a lot of pages about her. So my provider registered the http://www.sarah-brightman.nl
And now I want, that if people go to the sarahpage = http://www.libralion.com/sarah.htm that they see: http://www.sarah-brightman.nl
My visitors always can see where they are going, because on every page I have a menu at the bottom and that is very clear.
But I understand you have to write a php script for that and since my provider doesnot know how to do that, I am searching for help. Somebody know how to write this?

Is the new domain going to be hosted on the same machine as libralion.com? Why not just set up a virtual host?

You could always use the header function, but then it doesn't still displays the new address in the browser. You will need to use frames, I'd say just make an extremely small top frame so it isn't really noticeable.

index page?

Ok I see what the benefit of the frames is, but still then how does my provider redirect to http://www.sarah-brightman.nl? He says that if he does that, he comes out on my index page and that is: http://www.libralion.com
