problem with activation link

I have a page that is supposed to send an email with an activation link, but I can't get it to work. It has to do with the web address oddly enough. The line that seems to cause the problem is

$body .= "http://xxxxxxxxxxx.co.cc/register/activate.php?x=$user&a=$act

As it is the email is not sent at all. But if I remove the .cc from the end of xxxxxxxxxxx.co.cc all is fine but obviously the link is not complete. I can't find anything that works, please help.
