php and mysql install errors

I'm trying to connect to mysql through php.I recently also installed Apache.

The error messages that I get are as follows:

add TCP port 3306 to your firewall rules.

I thought of that first.

Now in Windows 7 adding a rule is confusing.

So I tried turning my firewall off for a short time but I still got the same error messages.

Thanks but it worked. I just realized that I hadn't started the MySql service.
