File Transfer Protocol

Please help!!! What is a File Transfer Protocol and what do we use it for? can you please make your answers simplier as this still does not help me understand.. thanks.

Wikipedia usually has the best and most elaborate answer, but it doesn't always give out accurate info. I personally find it a little technical too, when it comes to the terms. Anyway, just to answer your question, File Transfer Protocol (often abbreviated as FTP) is the standard protocol used if you want to copy files from one computer to another networked computer. In addition, there's also what we call, Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). From the word itself, it's more secure because it encrypts the transmission of password.
