install PHP extensions?

Postby brandnewbie » Thu Nov 04, 2004 8:02 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to install phpMyAdmin on my Fedora Core 2 box, and it tells me that I need several php4 extensions: mod_php, php4-bz2, php-mysql, php-zlip. How do I get these packages to download? I tried searching the repository at rpmfind.net, but they didn't have any for my distribution (php4.3.8). What should I do?

Thanks for your help. Let me know if there is any other information that you need.

Matt

I consider that you've not installed php ...
It comes installed by default...
Otherwise you can directly find nice and easy rpms for php extensions...
try using up2date if want to install by rpms..

other tedious but yet fully controllable version is compiling...

Hmm..I definitely have PHP installed and running, because phpinfo() works. I found a more recent RPM version of phpMyAdmin online, but it requires mod_php and php-common, which I couldn't find online for my version (4.3.8) . Any suggestions?

Okay, so I found a php-4.3.9 RPM, and I tried to install it, but it told me there were conflicts with the default 4.3.8 installation. Should I remove the 4.3.8 installation? If so, where is it? (I couldn't find it in the document tree) If possible, I'd like to have PHP update automatically when I use yum and up2date, neither of which seems to recognize the php-4.3.9 RPM. Any suggestions?

Okay, so I installed php4.3.9 from the tar.gz distribution (after uninstalling php 4.3.8 rpm) and unzipped phpMyAdmin and it worked perfectly! Thanks for everyone's help!
