configuring Php to work with mysql

I got an error saying that the mysql extension failed or something and that the mysql.so did not work or i did not configured it right. HOw can i configure php to work with mysql. i installed php and mysql as an rpm module instead of a tarball. thanks

try make a connection to mysaql or run like service
