Internal server errors, bad response, table corruptions

Hello I am a newby here.

I have a phpBB forum (at the moment down). My forum contains 15mb user data, 22mb search data, 1000 users, on average there are 4 – 8 users concurrent,

I just repaired a corrupted table. Experts are telling me that this is caused by a wrongly configured PHP/MySQL at my provider.

In the weeks before the corrupted table problem I had lots of INTERNAL SERVER ERRORS, bad or no response at all.

A request for a forum overview could end with an Internal Server Error, the same request 3 seconds later worked fine.

My internet provider tells me that the bad response is caused by a large number of processes hanging on my server (for days).

Any one out there that can provide me some ideas to tackle this problem?

How should my internet provider configure the PHP/MySQL environment for this database?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running:

2.05 phpBB, will soon upgrade to 2.06
MySQL 3.23.46
phpMyAdmin 2.1.0
Do not know which version of PHP, were can I find this?

More important, I think, is if you're running Apache or IIS.

Are there any variables wrong in the config of PHP regarding to MySQL?

Remember I get INTERNAL SERVER ERRORS and hanging processes (hanging for days)

all the software on the server is outdated.. PHP, MySQL, GD.. and there is probably more.

Suggesting them to upgrade is highly recommended. You will get better reliability, security, and features with the upgrades.

I read that in gentoo you just type
emerge php, apache
it will easily compile ,configure,install it for you the latest version that on the gentoo site is available... but you really have to configure the linux box for all that

My ISP promissed to install a new server with new software next week.

I will move to that server late next week and keep you informed about progress.

The reason why my ISP is doeing this is your comments about risks with old releases.

I gave them the URL of this discsussion.

No definately NOT. That is there major problem.

But I still want to tackle this in phases, first new versions new server and them I will claim a linux/mysql/php guru for optimization.
