Postby Robinson1 » Wed Jun 25, 2003 3:14 am

8O Hey folks,
Here's a good one for ya, how on earth can I learn to develop PHP scripts without the need for a server or server operating system... I really can only use my desktop computer at home,
Any ideas!!!

you could download a web server onto your desktop PC, e.g. and then install PHP onto it
and even MySQL
you could also install phpMyAdmin so you can view your database :)

You really don't NEED php on the machine to develop.. you only need php when you want to test the script.

You can download a PHP editor at (use it for free 30 days, then it cost $30 or whatever it was...)
With this program you don't need a server installed on your computer.
I use this myself... Good program

You don't really need a server-type OS to run a Web server for development purposes.

You might try out FoxServ (, which automates the installation and basic configuration of Apache, PHP, MySQL, and phpMyAdmin for Windows.
