help getting started on PHP

Hello everybody...
im trying to start programming PHP and have ran into a little problem

I have the following example from a book

<html>
<body>
PHP vil gerne sige noget:<BR>
<?
echo "Hej verden";
?>
</body>
</html>

when i run it on localhost i only get the line
PHP vil gerne sige noget:

I use the server downloaded from appservnetworks.com as server
can anybody tell me what im doing wrong

Either PHP is not installed, or it is not recognizing and processing the file. AppServeNetworks.com is for sale, and not a real website at this time. I would recommend installing / reinstalling PHP.

If you are installing PHP for the first time, I would recommend either WampServer (Windows) or a Lamp Server Package (Linux):

thanks for the fast reply...
i was using an old book which recommended appserver... i will try to instal again using another server :)
