how i install smtp server on my computer

I am trying to send the email from my computer(localhost), so i am facing the problem in smtp server setting. i have also changed in the [mail function] ,but still not works. so please tell me that how i should configure the smtp server so that i could send the mail from localhost , and also receive it.

then:
1. install mail-server
2. in php.ini SMTP= loaclhost
3. in Outlook, The Bat, etc POP3 and SMTP 127.0.0.1 or localhost

or set in php.ini other free smtp server from internet.....
