All I did was search Amazon's Computers & Internet section for "PHP" and sorted by Avg. Customer Review. It wouldn't have killed you to do the same. I've skimmed the PHP Bible before, and it seems to be a good choice.

In general, you shouldn't be surprised to learn that PHP.net is the best starting point for PHP.

what ever you do, do not get book titled PHP and MySQL by SAMS publishing First Printing 2001

This book is way outdated and shows the incorrect way to handle many things
