Just letting you know I'm getting spammed by a member named "beit" through your PM system, trying to get me to sign up on their board. The message is as follows:

We opened a new developer forums at [url removed]. We just started at 2003 and now have a group of professionals who are waiting for yoyr questions 24x7. Register at [url removed] and becom a member of our growing up information technology community. You can suggest us to open forum you want, on subject you want. We always listen to developers!

I'm all for people promoting their boards, but this is a bit much, don't you think?

thank you for reporting this .
Unluckly I know very well who they are (php-forum idea clone). They go on memberlist and send this messages . Only way to stop this spam is to de-activate the private messages :cry: .

had exactly the same at another board I visited recently (a php one that isn't anywhere near as good as here) and actually checked out the linked site

picture it: yellow and orange everywhere with the usual black and white textual bits. I stayed for about 3 or 4 seconds before hastening away.

I assume that the PM I have is from the same person :roll:

I was forced to turn off pm .

I am searching some mod/hack to reduce this problem before reactivating them (private messages).

Didn't mean to sound like a tattle-tale. I visit lots of boards and have people PM me to ask about various things all the time. The message from beit wouldn't have concerned me so much, except when I arrived yesterday to read their PM, I noticed your newest member was indeed beit. At this point it was clear they only showed up to spam the board and waste your resources. No telling how many other people got this.

For what it's worth, I doubt disabling the whole PM system is the answer. I dunno much about phpbb, but doesn't it have the ability for endusers to block PMs from specified members? No need to inconvenience everyone else because of this one ... umm ... person.

At this time I cannot re-activate pm because he used
a script to mass mail all the forum , me included ,
and If I reactivate pm he could try again :evil: .
Since 99% of users have also pm notification , the server
sent also over 1000 email notifications .
To avoid this will happen again , I turned off pm .

However on phpbb I have seen some hack/mod to limit the number of pm daily , it should solve the problem , I will try them asap.
