Weird Parse Error?? Please help

Hi,All:

I just installed osC2.2 in Redhat linux 8.0, I have the following
parse error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /var/www/html/catalog/login.php on line 190
______________________________

Here are the 3 lines in my file:

Line 188: <?php
Line 189: require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'application_bottom.php');
Line 190: ?>
_____________________

This code worked fine in my windows apache before.

Any comments or suggestions?

what is DIR_WS_INCLUDES ?
might be $DIR_WS_INCLUDES ?
