Postby Kevinphp7 » Mon Aug 11, 2014 4:16 am

Hello community ! :)

I seriously need your help. As the title says, i would like to suggest me hard/pro Php Books and Mysqli or PDO Books.

===> I have already read : PHP and MySQL Web Development (4th Edition) | Authors : Luke Welling and Laura Thomson but i am not satisfied.

So, i would like to suggest me, updated, relatively new and pro Books

1. Which Book do you suggest for learning Php ?
2. Which Book do you suggest for learning Mysqli or PDO ?
3. Any opinions about http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-MySQL- ... 144936358X and http://www.amazon.com/Sams-Teach-Yourse ... and+apache ?

Thank you in advance!

'PHP Advanced and Object-Oriented Programming" by Larry Ullman (I have the third edition, but I would get the latest edition out there).

While I don't agree with everything that is in the book, the majority I do. Specially the OOP section, which makes it very clear. This book assumes you have the basic knowledge of PHP, but I would guess you might be able to muddle through it if you don't? Larry Ullman does have other PHP books out there that might be better in starting out with PHP, but the book I mention will cover PDO pretty thoroughly when setting up a small CMS.

I had a Head-First book in HTML5 and I wasn't to impressed with it, they seem to go over the material to quickly and it doesn't seek in. Well that's my opinion.

That's the one, it will help you make dynamic pages with no problem and to show that things don't have to always been done in OOP that sometime the procedural ways is better.
