Reading tekst from another server ??

Postby broer » Sat Aug 31, 2002 1:09 pm

Hi,

This is what I want so I hope you've got the answer:

On my own Server with PHP, Mysql I have a PHP script
that shows the online users. I Also put the online user
in a text file so i can access it easily.

The question is that I want to read the text file from
the main server (without PHP, Mysql) and insert the
users on the page (on the main server). This has to
be not a PHP command because we don't have that
there.

The text line should be as follow:

"There are: " & own server/tekstfile & " users online"

I know this is a php forum but because it's related
with the problem i thought you don't mind. So i hope
someone got an answer.

Is this possible in HTML or javascript ?

You could try using Server Side Includes if your host support them. They'll have the relevant documentation if they do, but otherwise I don't think it's possible, that's the idea of server side scripting languages. You might get javascript to 'read' the file from the server and input the value!

Hmm....

Thanx,

I also tried SSI but i thought that only works on the main
server. That way you can't get a file from another server.

I think i have to look for a javascript for the problem.

I came up with an idea..

Is it possible to convert the textfile to a flashmovie
with using PHP ?

This way I can access the flashmovie and insert it
with no problem in HTML.

don't know about you're flashmovie

but an alternative could be to make an frame in the page where you want to "include" the file and simply link to the file on the other server.
