sending mail from mac os x

I'm trying to send mail as an answer to people's questions from a mac os x computer and, although mail() returns true, the user never gets any mail. I'm not a pro on UNIX at all, so if there's anyone who can show me, step for step, how to set up mail to work on a mac, I'd greatly appreciate it.

find on you computer php.ini or something like that file
in smtp server to you need set which is server work like SMTP
and set form who what's all

PHP comes pre-installed in OS X. All you have to do is activate it in Apache's httpd.conf file. I can't seem to find the php.ini file. Does anyone have a clue of where it is and how I can turn it on? thanks.
