Parse error at the end of document

Postby oyinloa » Fri Jul 18, 2003 4:54 pm

I'm totally puzzled. Please help.

I'm getting a parse error in the last line of my document - Line 664

Code: Select all
<!--DWLayoutTable-->
        <tr>
          <td width="137" height="114">&</td>
        </tr>
      </table></td>
  </tr>
</table>
  </body>
Line 664   <!-- InstanceEnd --></html>

The page validation states ' no starting tag found for "html" or it was closed too many times.

Is this the problem? If it is what is a starting tag and how do I fix this.

If its not the problem what could it be?

This ought to be in the HTML forum, since it's not a PHP question. First off, what validator are you using, and what're you trying to validate it as? (Transitional? Strict?) What the error means is that you don't have a <html> tag at the top of your document, or you have more than one </html> tag in the document. But, since you've only given us the very bottom of your document, I can't tell if this is the case. It looks like you're using Dreamweaver to edit, though, which ought to keep your tags sorted out pretty well, but a word to the wise: If you build your pages in Dreamweaver, don't bet on them validating. At all. I believe that Dreamweaver MX is better at this, but I don't know how much better. The bottom line is that the HTML that Dreamweaver outputs is pretty ugly, and if you manage to get HTML that validates, you can consider yourself very, very lucky.

if the parse error is returned through the php interpreter, it means you have a missing } closing brace somewhere within the php code.
