Y'see, the thing is it works fine under certain circumstances (yeah, the worst kind of bug to find). I suspect it's something to do with caching, and that online this has been done properly, but on my local server, it's still the basic level. Or something.

All well and good, but since I'm still developing, there is no templating or anything going on, so the offending file is over 1500 lines long. And I have no idea whereabouts the 'problem' is. I'm pretty sure you don't want 1500 lines of code posted here I uploaded the file to my domain, and it works...

db paging: 404 not found

I've got a page that has a dropdown on it so that the user can select how many records to show on each page. I'm writing that value to a cookie, etc. The values are 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25, but when I select '25' from the dropdown, I'm redirected to a 404. When I go back in, the 25 has been saved, and...

checking a variable being passed

I use forms to post values to a page, but I quite often use links for the same purpose (for example, paging a db). This means that for every if (isset($HTTP_POST_VARS['value'])) I have to have a if (isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['value'])) Is there a better way of doing this (...

Well, I finally got mod_rewrite up and going (that link you supplied is slightly out of date, by the way - the AddModule directive is not in the version of Apache I have (v2.0.40)

Now, all I have to do is to figure out what the flamin' rules are :) fun!

Re: sessions

use sessions!!!! Great! how? Actually, I don't see how sessions would work. The mod_rewrite seems like a good solution, but I can't do it just yet: I'm using Apache, but on a Win machine for development. It means that I have to leave this rather important detail until I've got my domain sorted out....

Help! How do I get the current domain?

I'm trying to create a sort of community thingy with php. Basically, each user will have their own area on my domain. Now the prob is that they will all share the same mysql db and I use a company_id to determine who is who. I could quite easily work this with w, but I want it to be completely trans...

$HTTP_GET_VARS in a frameset

I have a frameset of 3 php files, and the top one has a source, say top.php. In this file, I have a link something along the lines of top.php?menu=test. When I click on this link, the $HTTP_GETS_VARS['menu'] isn't found. Of course when I load top.php on its own, and try, everything is great. Do I re...

Yeah, that would have made things a lot clearer, wouldn't it. However, my initial premise that I couldn't do anything after setting a cookie was false - I can do whatever I like as long as the cookie is set before any headers are sent. So, no problem. Apologies for wasting people's time (esp. liqued...

Setting cookies and writing to a db

I have a little problem in that I'd like to save some information to a database and also save some info to the user's h/d in a cookie. The problem is that I can't save cookies after headers have been sent, and after the db has been written, I'd like to show a thankyou message, so I need to send head...

Date before 1970

Apologies if this has been asked before: my search turned up nothing. I have a database (it's Access, but I can move to mySQL, but I don't think it'll make a difference) with a date column, 'date'. In this column, there are standard date values, 29/06/1972, 12/01/2003, etc. However, there are also d...
