Re: Remove diacritics from MySQL query

Hi Thank you. It's now morning here I'm afraid it did not work. I also tried this (I don't know if I placed it properly in the script) and it does not work either.. $searchq = filter_var("%{$_POST['keyword']}%", FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING, FILTER_FLAG_STRIP_HIGH); // Sanitize the string function just_cl...

Re: Remove diacritics from MySQL query

Yes, an MySql table At what stage (line of the code) should I insert the various bits of code that I find online? I see many functions, do you put them in in their entirety? The string should arrive at the database without the accents. people might write them with an accent but the database has no a...

Re: Remove diacritics from MySQL query

I´'ve been through most of these and got nowhere, probably because I don't know how to insert them in the current script that queries the database: if($mysqli->connect_errno) { // Do not die or display any MySQL errors in this area. die('Unable to connect to the mysql server'); } $searchq = filter_v...

Re: Remove diacritics from MySQL query

Apparently... (I know zero of php) it does just that it normalizes strings to return them without the accents.

But if you know another way, I'll be very happy to try

Re: Remove diacritics from MySQL query

Hi So far I have been unable to get any code that I find online to do what i want, which is to strip the query (cities worldwide) of foreign accents. That line of code in red $searchq = str_replace( '-', ' ', $searchq ); works well to ignore hyphens but I need at least to have the same for acute and...

Remove diacritics from MySQL query

Hi I added some code to my Search script that queries a MySQL database, so that queries with hyphens can be stripped of them before the query, I would like to add code to extend that to strip the most common orthographic signs and saw this online, but don't know how and where to put it... My current...

using a variable to be a link in a table cell

Hi I have a MySQL database and a script that outputs answers to Search queries and displays them in a table cell. I want one of those cells to be a link to an exterior site. The link will be dependent on the query and the consequent data that is the output from the database, i.e. it can be one of ma...

Re: Project needs script

Sorry to come back... I've managed somehow to get a script working and now need to look at the final stage: How to display the results in a template webpage, rather than in a vertical list on a blank page. I read that this is done with a table. is that so, and is it the only method? How do I insert ...

Re: Project needs script

If you have data you can use a database. If you want immediate feedback use AJAX. The problem that I see, is that the way I am thinking of this exercise, the results of the search will appear on a specially prepared html page., and if that page all it says is that it could not find the (misspelt) c...

Re: Project needs script

You would have to code a message to say "No results found for Linden" when the search is validated.
I was thinking more in terms of getting immediate feedback at the time of entering the query. t would look up another html file and report "Entry not valid". is that not possible?

Re: Project needs script

you can either look up in the database or create drop down lists of countries and cities to for the user to choose, then you know the user has chosen a valid entry. Hi Jon, thanks I do not want drop-down lists; I decided on search boxes. The number of cities will be in the region 2000/5000 which wi...

Need explanation, please

I've inherited a php login procedure that is perfect except for a tiny little "/" When after logging in you are allowed into the page, it opens with a slash at the end of the url, and that is causing the page not to display properly. I have been trying to understand what is causing the "/". Not know...
