I've been tried that MVC framework and I found it more interesting.

It's better to save both database and directory
once you loss your uploaded files to database you have the back up file and vise versa

I suggest you to use a web developer tool either Firebug in Mozilla it would help you a lot by managing your website.
To solve your problem you must adjust the margins check it out and be patient for what your doing.

and If your using PDO you can fetch it.
